PreK and Kindergarten Multi-Lingual Learners and Families
A LibGuide to resources supporting the preschool to kindergarten transition with ML Students in mind. These resources are helpful for ALL of our early learners, but with a special focus on our multilingual learners.
Glossary:
MLs - Multi-Lingual Learners (or Families). We used to refer to these students as EL, ELL, ESL, but this is the most current term used by CCSD.
PLC - Professional Learning Community. A simple way to refer to a specific team of teachers.

Contact information and services from CCSD's Translation team. Includes info on Over the Phone Interpretation (OPI) and written translation.

My Family: My First-Generation Family by Claudia Harrington
A digital storybook about Lenny getting to Manny's first-generation family. Part of CCSD's Cameron's Camp for Wellness collection of SEL books. Must be logged in to Clever.
Teaching Books - Online Books and Lessons, etc.
A digital resource with eBooks, read-alouds, virtual author visits, pronounciation guides, lesson plans, activities, and more. Must be logged in to Clever.
Unite for Literacy - Online Early Reading Books with Audio in Multiple Languages
A digital resource with eBooks and audio read alouds with most books at the earliest reading levels. This website has audio for most books in MANY languages, with side-by-side English audio and visual text highlighting. A MUST for the preschool/kindergarten ML class!
For Students to Use:
Early learning "research" tool. Developmentally appropriate navigation, audio narration, early reading non-fiction content. Must be logged in to Clever.
Tumble Books - Student-Friendly eBooks
Early learning online books with many including audio-visual read-alouds. Teachers can use with full class or students can log on individually. Must be logged in to Clever.

Public Library Association’s Early Literacy Calendar
A printable PDF 2023 calendar with daily literacy activities, book recommendations, songs and activites to promote literacy at home. Provided by CCPL. Great for "homework" in the PreK and K classrooms.
Creative Curriculum Study Lessons
A collection of YouTube videos connected to CC. Spanish and English lessons, many ready for classroom viewing.

A printable PDF crosswalk for developmental milestons and at-home support suggestions.
Improving Behaviors - Family Connections SC
Information on behavior supports in family-friendly language. Resource is from Family Connections SC, focusing on students with special needs.

Information on how to access public library resources using CCSD Student credentials.
Storytime To-Go - Charleston County Public Library materials for checkout
Information on Storytime To-Go kits available for checkout at CCPL branches. Materials include books, activities, songs/rhymes and are available from any CCPL branch.
