November Service Learning Project

Buist Academy students participated in a canned food drive to support the Lowcountry Food Bank. This opportunity encouraged students to gain perspective of the community around them as well as civic responsibility through meaningful community service.

Buist Academy collected over 3,000 items to donate. Awesome job!

Taking Action

Liam is a 2nd-grade student at Buist Academy with a puppy treat business. He decided to donate half of his profits to support the BA canned food drive. While selling puppy treats, Liam set up a jar for people to make donations. He was able to get other business owners to match his donations and raised $300 to purchase canned goods. Liam purchased 302 canned goods!

We are proud of Liam and all of our students for taking action and giving back to our local community.

Read-A-Thon

The last day to donate will be November 29th. If you are having issues logging minutes or entering a donation, please send an email to Mr. Baker. eric_baker@charleston.k12.sc.us. Final results announced and student rewards will be distributed after Fall break.

CCSD Unsung Educator of the Week

Congratulations to the CCSD Unsung Educator of the Week, Ms. Michelle.

"Ms. Michelle is an amazing member of the Buist Academy Family. As the cafeteria manager, she takes an active role in not only the nutritional needs of our students but their educational experience, as well. The cafeteria always celebrates cultural heritage months with special feasts and lunches, they highlight the South Carolina harvests of the month with homemade delicious items that they share with students and staff, and they regularly participate in cross-curricular lessons with classroom teachers. In the past, the cafeteria has worked with multiple grade levels on lessons. Most recently, Ms. Michelle worked with 8th-grade students to help create their Barbadian-Charlestonian Potluck. She designed stations and worked with the students to enhance their learning in the classroom.

The cafeteria staff participates in all of the spirit days and students love their positive energy. Ms. Michelle and her staff are an irreplaceable part of our daily lives at Buist!"

Flu Clinics

DHEC is partnering with many school districts across the state to provide flu vaccines. The flu shot is given at no cost to you. Don’t miss this chance to protect your child from the flu!

Buist Academy will be hosting DHEC flu clinics.

The first flu clinic will be on December 10, 2021, at 8:30.

The second flu clinic will be on January 13, 2022, at 8:30.

The online or paper consent forms must be completed by November 30, 2021.

We are excited to be utilizing electronic consent forms again this year, which should make the process more efficient.

Please click here to provide consent for a flu vaccine or flu nasal spray at school.

CCSD to Offer COVID Vaccine (ages 5-11)

Now that the Center for Disease Control has officially approved the COVID-19 vaccine for five to 11-year-olds, Charleston County School District (CCSD) will provide the vaccine through partnerships with local medical organizations.

The district has set up 10 regional afterschool clinics by the Constituent District that will administer the two-shot Pfizer vaccine to students, with signed permission and approval from their parent or legal guardian, over the course of the next few months.

National Family Engagement Month

November is National Family Engagement Month. It is a time to recognize and celebrate the importance of families in the education and well-being of their children.

We want to recognize our parents, families, and caregivers for all that you do to support the education of our students.

Thank you! Engaging in your child’s education has been shown to dramatically increase academic success.

November serves not only as a celebration of family engagement, but also a reminder of the difference you make in your child’s learning.
