What are the SAT and ACT?
The SAT and ACT are college entrance exams. Many four-year universities require an SAT or ACT score for admittance and for consideration for merit-based scholarships. The SAT and ACT can also be used to show if students meet certain benchmarks that make them College and Career Ready.
Who should take the SAT or ACT?
All Juniors/Third Year Students should take the ACT or SAT. Some Seniors/Fourth Year Students may choose to retake the test(s) in order to improve their score for college admissions purposes.
When should the SAT or ACT be taken?
All Juniors/Third Year Students will have the opportunity to take a free ACT OR SAT test at school during the school day. Students will be allowed to choose which test they would prefer to take. Testing dates will be announced and coordinated by NCHS's Testing Coordinator. Also, see school TV Monitors for date information.
What's the difference between the SAT and the ACT?
Please see this page for information about the differences between the two tests.
Which test should I take?
It's beneficial to take both the SAT and the ACT. Some students do better on one vs. the other.
How many times should I take the SAT or ACT?
Many students are able to increase their scores if they take the SAT or ACT more than once. Both tests superscore their tests, which means that they factor the highest subscores from each time you take the test into your composite score. Please see this page for information about how SAT superscores, and this page for information about how ACT superscores. Remember, you will get one FREE SAT or ACT test to take at school. For all subsequent tests, you will have to register to take them on a Saturday morning at a local testing site. Students eligible for fee waivers will receive two fee waivers for each test.
