Buist Academy follows a Special School Gifted and Talented model. Our students are not pulled out of class to attend a separate GT or SAIL class. Students in grades 3-5 will receive GT services incorporated into core classes taught by at least one GT-endorsed or certified teacher. Students in grades 6-8 will have at least one CCSD honors-level course. At Buist Academy, all middle school core courses are taken at the honors level.
Several years ago, a GT enhancement class was added to our program. This "stretch" course is used to help supplement our ongoing efforts to support student growth and critical thinking skills. This is not a required class, and scheduling may look different every year.
The International Baccalaureate program is recognized as a GT extension program at Buist Academy. This program focuses on an inquiry-based learning model for our PYP and MYP students. Extension models that supplement and support GT program models are critical for a full continuum of services for gifted and high-potential learners.
Our mission is to challenge all students in a rigorous environment. The GT program is just one way that we aim to fulfill that goal.

We need your help to support and spread CHEER to our related arts and foreign language teachers. At some point, parents will be asked to donate money to support homeroom/core content teachers. These funds are used to acknowledge birthdays and other special events.
We do not want to forget about our WONDERFUL related arts and foreign language teachers. Each grade level is being asked to "adopt" two additional teachers to celebrate and remember during special times of the year.
To ease this process, each grade level is assigned two teachers. Please click here to find out the teacher who has been assigned to your grade level. More details will be given to room coordinators. This is 100% optional.
Any token of your appreciation is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your support!

Reminders:
Please give teachers at least 24 hours (business days M-F) to respond to phone calls or emails.
If you have questions or concerns, contact your child's teacher first.
