The procedures for student Chromebook use at home have changed this year. Students will not be allowed to take a Chromebook home unless a parent/guardian has indicated on the Technology Survey that the student does not have a device to use for home assignments. Chromebooks that go home must be returned to school the following day charged and ready for instruction.
Student Chromebooks are owned by CCSD and should not be considered personal devices. In order to reduce the number of broken and lost devices, it is the responsibility of students, families, and staff to ensure that these items are kept in good/working condition. Technology checks will be conducted each quarter. The below fee schedule will be used.
Negligent/Accident Breakage - No charge for 1st incident per school year. $50/each subsequent incident.
Intentional Vandalism - $300
Stolen Device - No cost if a police report is provided.
Lost Device - $300
Lost Charger - $40
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Looney.

Nothing says SCHOOL SPIRIT like sports! Please complete this Buist Sports Interest Survey.
The goal of this survey is to get feedback in three areas:
(1) Parents who are interested in coaching sports
(2) Parents who are interested in supporting sports
(3) General idea of the number of children who are interested in playing sports
The majority of sports at Buist are managed & coached by volunteers/parents. They are not run by Buist or CCSD and coaches work with outside leagues. There will have to be enough kids and coaches to have a Buist team for any sports listed below. This form is being provided to get a sense of interest for what's available.
Indicating interest does not commit you to being on a team or being a coach, but we sure would love to have many of you participate!
Please click here for more sports information.
Contact Mr. Keith Ackler at Keith_Ackler@charleston.k12.sc.us to communicate sports announcement information such as tryouts, practice reminders, and game results. Mr. Ackler will also assist with scheduling gym times for volleyball and basketball practices.
Teachers are starting to plan walking field trips!
Our amazing downtown location affords us the opportunity to explore Charleston. We would love permission to take students on a variety of walking field trips throughout the school year. Please click the link below to learn more about walking field trips and to sign the permission slip.

The Buist Mock Trial Team is looking for an assistant Attorney Coach to work with Chris Garner (teacher coach) and Beth Bailey (current attorney coach) during the fall. This program has been a very successful decade-long extracurricular activity for our students, including winning the state competition in 2019.
The primary goal of the South Carolina Bar’s Mock Trial program is to educate young people about the law and our legal system focusing on excellent preparation and presentation. The Attorney Coach's responsibilities include helping students in honing trial skills, assisting in practice rounds, and offering critiques of the students’ skills.
Time commitment is flexible but can include tryouts the week of September 4th, Sunday afternoon rehearsals starting Oct 1st, regional competition on Oct 28th, and, if needed, state competition in December.
For more information, please reach out to Beth Bailey at bethfritzbailey@gmail.com.
Help your child remember his/her experiences at Buist Academy by purchasing a yearbook. Prices increase after December, so buy it for less now!
