Avery Skotko (3rd grade), was asked by the SC Aquarium to walk alongside a rehabilitated turtle, as it was released back into the ocean at Folly Beach. She made a poster to carry alongside the turtle. This summer, Avery raised almost $600 for the sea turtles by selling baked goods, and she is now part of the Habit Heroes youth volunteer group through the aquarium.
Do you know a student who is taking ACTION in their community? Action is an integral part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. It is an opportunity for students to make a significant contribution to their local and global communities. It is a core component of student agency and offers learners the ability to see that they can not only make a meaningful contribution to the world around them but also be change-makers.
Please email us if you would like to share how your student is taking action in their local communities.
We will feature students on our Lights, Camera, Take Action- Bulletin Board.
Emails can be sent to Noelle_Blaney@charleston.k12.sc.us
Hispanic Heritage Month began on Friday, September 15, it is also Independence Day in many Latin American countries. Buist families are encouraged to celebrate together using the “Hispanic Family Choice Board”.
Each day outlines a different way to experience Hispanic culture. Invite your family to experience a variety of these activities with you. Be prepared to share your experience with your homeroom class. You can share your experience through a story, a picture, a recipe, a menu, or other documentation.
Students who complete 5 activities in the month are eligible for a prize!
