"Teachers possess the greatest power in the universe. The power to impact the life of a student." Jon Gordon
Thank you to our Buist Academy faculty and staff for your hard work and dedication. Through the most challenging of times, you continue to support and encourage our students. We admire the resilience and strength that you have shown throughout this school year. We understand that teaching requires knowledge, planning, flexibility, compassion, leadership, and so much more. We appreciate and celebrate all that you do!
The Buist Academy Foundation is looking for volunteers to help prepare for the Buist Academy Royal Fun Run!
The event will be held on May 21 in the Buist Academy gym. Each class will have a scheduled time to run and dance! Due to health and safety concerns, this smaller event will be by homeroom class and limited to students and staff. We will be sharing videos, pictures, and there will be some live streaming throughout the event.
Volunteers are needed on May 7, 12th, and 19th. Please click here to volunteer. Volunteer spaces are limited. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Collette Johnson and Savannah Bryan each placed 2nd in the Young Minds Dreaming Poetry Contest. They submitted bilingual poems about what inspires them and will be invited to an awards ceremony with author Pat Mora.
Buist Academy is collecting student work for our Buist Academy Literary Magazine, The Inkling. We are asking that students who are interested in having their work published in this school-wide magazine to please submit a final draft of a writing or artwork by May 17. Each child that has a creative piece included will receive one free magazine and if they would like an extra copy they will be able to purchase one.
Crayon drawing and items on lined paper do not scan well, and we need the artwork to be on white paper and the writings to be submitted in word or google doc. Please submit by May 17, 2021 to any ELA teacher.

This week teachers will enjoy breakfast, lunch, daily drawings, and many other special tokens of appreciation! We would like to thank the Buist Academy Foundation, parent volunteers, parent donors, and the Buist Academy administrators for helping to plan, organize, and support Teacher Appreciation Week! No matter how big or small, we truly appreciate your time, contributions, and support.
Buist Academy's World Cultures Week will be held the week of June 7, 2021. We are looking for Buist parents or guardians that would like to share information with students about their heritage to include but not limited to cultural traditions, language, art, and attire.

Over the past two weeks, we have seen an increase in positive COVID-19 cases at Buist Academy. We will monitor very closely the COVID-19 rates in order to identify any trends or issues that would require a change in our protocols, daily practices, or a change in student schedules.
Anyone who is symptomatic or has been exposed to COVID-19 should be kept at home. The most common symptoms include new or worsening cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, and loss of taste and smell.
When a class has three or more positive cases within a two-week period that class may be required to quarantine for at least ten days. Please be aware that the health of our students and staff is a top priority. We encourage you to continue to have your student make safe choices when away from school.
Please visit the CCSD website to review the District’s COVID-19 protocols, contact tracing procedures, and the notification process.
Enjoy these articles that support helping children to become confident learners. Children need to be encouraged to try new things, take risks, and know that making mistakes helps them learn and grow.
