Dr. Chad Williams
Buist Academy's 2023 Teacher of the Year!
Teacher of the Year!
Dr. Williams consistently engages his students in high-quality, rigorous real-world math experiences. He has high expectations for all his students and strives to meet these expectations by building relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
He is constantly looking for new ways to engage and challenge his students. Dr. Williams is a great colleague, always sharing resources and ideas. He is always looking for ways to grow as an educator and leader. Dr. Williams serves as the 8th-grade team leader and math department chair.
Thank you for sharing your passion for math and love for learning with our Buist Academy family.
Dr. Williams-As a Change Agent
Improving students’ thinking and grit has been a passion of mine for years. I have found that using vertical whiteboards, incorporating complex, open-ended tasks, and allowing students to redo missed assessment standards have enhanced student learning outcomes. Despite these strategies, some students still struggled with unfamiliar content. I needed another approach. The answer came when a friend sent a copy of Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) in Mathematics by Peter Liljedahl.
Soon a community of learners emerged that could tackle challenging tasks. As a result, my student’s MAP scores and growth were fantastic last year. My current students are on pace to do something similar or greater, with over 75% surpassing their winter goals.
My goal is to be a change agent in CCSD that jump-starts the implementation of BTC in every mathematics classroom, and we become a model for other districts to follow.
