Message from our Director:
Dear Head Start Families,
Welcome to Charleston County Head Start/Early Head Start Program! We could not be more excited you chose to begin your child’s educational journey with us
and look forward to partnering with you.
Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive, child development programs that serve children, birth through preschool, and their families. Our program is child-focused and has the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children. We believe in partnering with you to ensure that your child reaches his/her fullest potential and invite you to become an integral part of your child’s education.
In Charleston County, students are the heart of our work and excellence is our only option. You and your family deserve nothing less! Please contact us if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve your family.
In partnership,
S. Gayle Morris, Director

“The mental health of children and the adults that care for them is essential to school readiness.” - ECLKC, Mental Health, para. 1
As a guardian, it’s important to recognize when you need a break. Yes, everyone needs a break. You can try relaxation techniques to regain control of your thoughts and feelings. Let’s try:
Becoming active
Laughter is good for your soul
Practice Affirmations
Seek Counseling
It’s ok, to not be ok. You are not in this alone. Your mental health impacts your families’ well being. Connect with your Family Advocate for support.
A balanced meal should be colorful. It also prepares our scholars to focus throughout the day. What's on your plate? Check out USDA: My Plate - Healthy Eating for Families for more suggestions.
Education Highlights
It's never to early to begin to develop your scholar's vocabulary. The best way for this to be established is by reading daily. "Within their first 18 months, most infants who have explored and shared books with adults show an understanding that pictures symbolize things in the real world, an understanding that is uniquely human (Barton & Brophy-Herb 2006).
Volunteer with us!
We enjoy having parents support our learning environments. Make sure you complete the District's Volunteer Application before dedicating your time. We look foward to seeing you soon.
