A quiz can be a relatively simple event that can be effective in creating engagement, especially beyond the Islamic Society/MSA crowd into other societies.
It is also a way to raise money and can be super fun when organised right!
Everything you need to know to prepare an amazing event!
A quiz can be done in many ways, so answer the points below with your target audience in mind to get your desired quiz format:
Are you going to have a quiz for friends or between societies?
Is it going to be held in a classroom or lecture theatre?
Have you set a budget for your event?
How much will I charge? Will it be for just the teams or also the spectators?
This is the first step to raising money in your quiz with the sign up fee. Work out how you want to charge per person or per team.
Typically a price of £25 per team of 5 is reasonable.
What's a quiz without questions? We all know people love to win, and they can often resort to checking their phone to 'research' their answers.
A TOP TIP is to use question formats that make it incredibly hard to google!
You may want to have a Quiz where everyone can answer all questions (either as individuals or groups) or slightly different formats such as jeopardy (SEE EXAMPLE SLIDES) , ‘who wants to be a millionaire’ (SEE EXAMPLE SLIDES) , family feud (SEE EXAMPLE SLIDES) or ‘Hot seat live’.

Categories included: General Knowledge, Geography, Science, Animals, Sports, Quran, Islamic Knowledge, TV, Film, Art & Literature, Food, Maths, Vocab
For questions which are especially difficult to cheat on, check out our second Question Bank! Made up of emoji, picture, word and number based questions.
To make sure you get the best time and location, decide early on when you want to hold your quiz and where on campus.
A TOP TIP on choosing the day is to hold it early on in your charity week, if not the first day! It can be a popular event and opportunity to tell the masses about Charity Week further.
Be sure to liaise with your Society and union to process your room booking as soon as possible. Important considerations to take are whether the venue allows for social distancing, safe seating and good access and exit of the space.
Your quiz hosts will make or break your quiz, so choose wisely.
Try to find a person or duo well known on campus and have that confidence and humour!

Think about branding and ensure the people who are promoting the event know what the event is, as this will be invaluable during its promotion.
Create an eye-catching video or poster that could be shared on your social media and maybe even your Unions social media. It can be useful creating a Facebook event and messaging into facebook and WhatsApp groups.
A TOP TIP is to utilise your institutions mailing list and also encourage key people to spread the word.
There are many ways to sell tickets, from simply taking cash to using online platforms such as Eventbrite. For any cash collected, handle with gloves and do not count for 24-48 hours.
A TOP TIP when using Eventbrite is to have your tickets as free on the site and ask contestants to use bank transfer/paypal to send the ticket money (so that Eventbrite doesn’t take part of the ticket price).
A better option could be to ask your union if you can use their website to sell tickets too.
Any competition needs trophies and prizes. A TOP TIP to get hold of these is talk to your volunteers or local trophy shops for a donated trophy and medals.
For a prize, talk to local shops for prizes, meal vouchers or experience vouchers to be donated and won.
The sign up fee isn't the only way to fundraise at your quiz.
All that brain power is hungry work! Plan to sell some food and drinks to raise even more money. Ensure all food is packed and sealed, and is handled with masks and gloves worn.
A TOP TIP is to talk to local restaurants and food businesses about donating food to be sold at your quiz.
You've done the planning, now is the time to ensure everything runs smoothly!
Don't forget why you're holding a quiz! The beginning of the event is a great time to share with your audience about what Charity Week is.
A TOP TIP is to play Charity Week videos on loop as people walk in, or play at the start of the event.
Check out the Charity Week Youtube channel for videos!
Have extra masks, gloves and hand sanitiser, in case anyone forgets to bring their own.
Work out prior when you'll need to break for prayer. Ensure the prayer space allows for social distancing.
It is important to have someone in charge of the day, so they can solve any challenges that arise. Also have someone in charge of all COVID 19 provisions.
Have a team of volunteers ready to help, going around to look out for anyone cheating and on hand to collect answer sheets and mark answers.
A TOP TIP is to make sure you have built in time to your itinerary to mark answers, whether this is whilst the next round goes on or whilst you stop for a break and sell food and drinks!
The questions may be fun, but why not increase the intensity.
A TOP TIP is to allow teams to pay, to double or triple their points before a round starts, steal a member from another team or stop them answering for a round.
This is guaranteed to make your quiz a lot more exciting!
Hopefully you've got lots of food and drinks to sell, to have an opportunity for your audience to spend their money!
Work with your host to plan how long the rounds are and when you'll need to break for prayer.
A TOP TIP is to allocate someone to time keeping, so you can pray on time and end on time too! Ensure there is space to pray whilst maintaining social distancing.
After announcing the winner or whilst you tot up the final marks, spend a little time reminding everyone how else they can get involved and support Charity Week.
An event does't finish when your guests leave, wrap up the experience with excellence!
Thank all those that attended, this can be done by sending a message via your social media and sign up lists
A TOP TIP is to use this moment to remind them of your upcoming events and share your donation link.
Make sure someone is in charge of handing out the prizes
Make sure someone is in charge of following up with the donations
Ensure you leave time to pack up after the event - ensure this is considered in the timings of the room booking so that the room is left as you received it.
Ensure roles are allocated for event pack up and everyone who donated items gets them back, and adequate cleaning has been done.
If you have any extra food or drink remaining, a TOP TIP is to have someone ready to store it.
There are always hiccups or lessons that we learn, but do we make sure that the team next year will learn from these? Use our template event planning document to keep a record of how you put on your event and also any feedback to pass onto next year's team!
