Chariho Regional School District Medication Protocol
Only the school nurse or parents/guardians may dispense medications to students (except Epi-Pens, Inhalers and Insulin, see below).
No students may transport medication to/from school, medications must delivered by a parent/guardian or other adult (except Epi-Pens, Inhalers and Insulin, see below).
OTC Medications other than those listed on the Emergency Consent to Release forms may be dispensed by the school nurse with ALL of the following:
Physicians Orders
The medication in an original, clearly labeled container
Parental authorization in writing
Inhalers, Epi-Pens and Insulin may be self-carried/self-administered with all of the following:
Physicians Orders stating the student may self-carry
Parental authorization in writing
School Nurse approval

Upcoming Events and School Screenings
9th Grade Vision Screenings
Date: February 11, 2026
Students are exempted from vision screenings by having an up to date vision screening on file. This screening may be part of a regular physical, or performed by an eye care provider.
To opt out of 9th Grade Vision Screenings, please provide proof of exams by family providers
or complete THIS FORM by January 30, 2026
High School Health Requirements
Requirements for students entering 9th grade
2 doses of HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine
Requirements for students entering 12th grade
2nd dose of Meningococcal vaccine
Up to date physical (dated within the last 12 months)
Recommended: Meningitis B series
High School Screenings
9th Grade: Vision and Dental
Vision and dental screenings are run by outside providers, details regarding dates and opt-out forms will be sent out to parents and guardians.
Students are exempt from dental screenings with proof of an exam by a family provider within six months of the scheduled screening day. A Dental Form can be submitted when students have care from a family provider.
Students are exempted from vision screenings with proof of an eye exam (either by an eye care provider, or a primary care provider as part of a routine physical) within a year of the scheduled screening day.
Sick Student? Here are some guidelines on when to stay home and when to return.
A student should stay home from school if they:
Are actively vomiting
Have a temperature greater than 100.4⁰F
Have an unexplained rash
Have frequent diarrhea
Have severe, persistent pain anywhere
Have cold symptoms severe enough to impact learning/participation
Have been diagnosed with a specific condition requiring exclusion
A student may return to school post- illness when:
fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours
free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours
illness/injury related symptoms have resolved enough for school participation
