The company was founded by Donald J Charette in the 1960’s. He started his career

traveling to clients’ homes to prepare their tax returns. Many times, he would prepare

tax returns for the whole family or neighborhood in one night. He quickly became well

known for this service and enjoyed a very successful career in accounting and tax

return preparation until his passing in 2010.

In the 1980’s Don Sr met an IRS auditor, Gregg J Makowski. Gregg was working on an

audit for one of Don’s clients. Don was so impressed with his knowledge that he asked

Gregg to come on board as a partner. They enjoyed many years as partners building a

large client base. Charette, Makowski and Company were born.

In 1986, Donald J Charette II came on board as a new accountant/tax preparer. Don Jr

learned the trade quickly and became Gregg’s partner a few years later. Over many

years Don Jr acquired knowledge from the tutelage of Don Sr and Gregg. The

partnership known as Charette, Makowski & Company lasted 37 years until the

retirement of Gregg Makowski in 2023.

Our company always prided itself on the quality of time we spend with each client.

Because of this commitment to our clients we have been fortunate that advertising was

not required. We have built an excellent client base from our knowledge and

experience over the last 60 plus years. The company structure has changed recently,

but one constant is our commitment to help every client with their accounting and tax

filing needs.
