TPE 10.1
Coordinates, directs, and communicates effectively with other special education service providers, general educators, paraeducators, and volunteers to ensure useful instruction.
It is essential that I communicate effectively with other special education service providers, general educators, paraeducators, and volunteers to ensure useful instruction. I work daily with the school counselor, speech, and general education teacher to fill them in on any particular student behaviors, achievements, or areas of support. I have attended multiple IEP and SST meetings to further communicate with these individuals, as well as the parents of my students. I work daily with my mentor teacher who is the educational specialist. We co-plan lessons, which include finding ways to support students towards meeting their IEP goals. It is very important to communicate effectively with all individuals involved in a student's life to ensure everyone is on the same page. To the right is an example of one of my students IEPs at a glance, which includes their goals and accommodations. This IEP at a glance is given to general education teachers and my mentor teacher and I ensure they have all the necessary tools for the student's accommodations.
To the right, I have included a teacher input/observation form that was completed by a general education teacher for one of the students on my mentor teacher's case load. This form helped us gain the whole picture of the student as we do not see him everyday. It is often very hard to schedule time to meet with general education teachers due to such busy schedules, which is why this form is so beneficial. My mentor teacher and I were able to gain a better understanding of the students abilities and needs, as well as behaviors. This form also provides a space for the teacher to include strengths and areas of concern. This form helped my mentor teacher and I evaluate goal progress and communicate this information with paraeducators.
My mentor teacher and I have access to all other teacher's google classrooms along with aids and other staff. A sample of the group of participants involved in a teacher's google classroom is included to the right. This allows everyone to communicate easily and be on the same page. My mentor teacher and I can check-in with what students are currently working on in their general education or special education classrooms without having to meet with the teachers. This has been an effective way for us to stay connected with what student's are doing in their classes to better plan the instruction we teach them, as well as our paraeducators.
