HELP us get to South Africa to Learn and Bring home a Reforestation Festival!
The idea of creating "Empalai Kitai" started through an idea pitched by Jovice Sim and Chang ZhiXian in 2019. The name "Empalai Kitai" came from the language of Iban indigenous race in Sarawak, which means "our farm". This community was then launched during 1st August 2021, which was located right behind the Champs Education centre.
Empalai Kitai had a humble start with a few volunteers joining our community farm. We started from planting crops in soil to creating many farm projects such as a self-sustainable hydroponic farm, making a duck pond and even producing bio-charcoal from plants. We are able to continue to this Empalai Kitai community farm project thanks to Carbon Xchange (Sarawak) SB, which has taught us many things about farming throughout these years.
As a community farm launched at the backyard of Champs Education, we are also excited to introduce and show off our community farm to our students. We have integrated farm activities in some of our events such as FunDays, where we taught children how biochar (bio-charcoal) was made. We had also made Empalai Kitai one of our focuses during Impact Appathon 2023, where participants were tasked to develop a mobile application for the community farm. We are looking forward to continue sharing stories about Empalai Kitai hoping to inspire people.
