The partnership between the County of Hawaii and Chaminade University promotes the Montessori educational approach. The CoH Tuition Scholarship is available to support students taking Montessori courses and prerequisites.
The undergraduate early childhood education programs prepare candidates interested in working with young children ages 2 1/2 through six years in private schools and other educational environments. Prior to taking any ECE courses, it is required that the student take the one credit, ED 101 Introduction to Chaminade ECE course.
Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education with Montessori Credential
This program prepares candidates interested in working with young children ages 2 ½ through six years in private schools and other educational environments with Montessori credential.
The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) provides state-approved teacher education programs leading to initial licensure for teachers in the state of Hawai’i.
Master of Arts in Teaching in ECE with PK-3 Licensure
This program provides teacher candidates with the opportunity to develop skills in practice, theory, leadership, scholarship, and communication skills using Montessori approach as applied to the PK-3 learner.
Master of Arts in Teaching in ECE with Montessori Credential and PK-K Licensure
The M.A.T. in ECE with Montessori and PK-K program provides teacher candidates with the opportunity to develop skills in practice, theory, leadership, scholarship, and communications skills as applied using the Montessori approach to the Pre-K to Kindergarten learner. This program provides requirements to be recommended for American Montessori Society (AMS) credential at the Early Childhood level as well as licensure in PK-K level.
Montessori Certificate Program
The non-degree Montessori Certificate Program is for students seeking Montessori training without a degree. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Chaminade University Montessori Certificate which may be used towards the recommendation of an American Montessori Society (AMS) Montessori Credential at the Early Childhood Level. Eight of the twelve courses are delivered online and the remaining four courses are hybrid, which require attending a four-week summer intensive on-ground session.
