Pride in Identity - Disability is strength and culture. We celebrate our bodies, minds, and experiences without shame.
Accessibility as a Right – We value universal design and inclusion in all aspects of society as civil rights and human rights, not charity.
Never About Us Without Us – We believe that our presence in all spaces is crucial — from government to public life.
Intersectionality and Inclusion – We recognize intersections of disability with race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. for true justice.
Challenging Ableism – We confront ableism and reject attitudes and policies that undervalue us.
Community Care - We value interdependence and collective care as crucial systems of support and as building blocks for healthy communities.
Celebration and Resistance - Disability Pride is both a joyful celebration and a powerful act of resistance.
Visibility for Lasting Change - This event is not a one-time celebration. It is a step toward visibility, inclusion, and lasting change beyond this day.
We gather to honor the diversity and strength of those living with disabilities. We urge Cambridge to prioritize equity and inclusion for all.
This Disability Pride event is a powerful declaration, announcing our presence and voices.
We see disability as a valuable part of life. Disability Pride is not about overcoming our uniqueness. It is about confronting ableism, embracing identity, and claiming space with boldness.
Everyone involved shares these values. We honor those before us. We uplift those among us. And we build a future where every person, with or without disabilities, can thrive and be proud.
A disability is any condition of the body or mind that makes it harder for a person to do certain activities and interact with the world around them.
The same type of disability can affect two people in very different ways. Some disabilities are hidden or not easy to see. Some disabilities happen at or before birth, and others happen later in life.
There are many types of disabilities, such as those that affect a person’s:
• vision
• movement
• thinking
• remembering
• learning
• communicating
• hearing
• mental health and/or
• social relationships
