XIII Workshop on LiDAR Measurements in Latin America
(WLMLA)
The Latin America LiDAR Network (LALINET) was established in 2001 during the first Workshop on LiDAR Measurements in Latin America (WLMLA). Its primary aim is to enhance our understanding of aerosol distribution across South America and its impact on weather and climate.
The XIII WLMLA will be held in La Paz, Bolivia, from November 30 to December 4, 2026.
This gathering serves several key objectives:
Promote Communication and Cooperation: Foster collaboration among scientific members of the LiDAR community in Latin America.
Plan Future Research: Strategize and strengthen future LiDAR research projects within LALINET.
Address Challenges and Enhance Collaboration: Provide a platform to discuss common issues and explore ways to increase cooperation among countries and organizations, ultimately enhancing future active remote sensing measurements.
In conjunction with the workshop, a basic school on LiDAR will be offered. This school has historically provided Latin American students with an excellent opportunity to learn the fundamentals of remote sensing. In addition, the event presents a valuable opportunity for LiDAR and environmental companies to connect with potential clients within Latin American LiDAR working groups.
The Laboratory for Atmospheric Physics (LFA) of the University Mayor de San Andrés, the host of the XIII WLMLA, extends an invitation to LiDAR students and researchers.
We encourage you to join us to discuss future directions in this field and to ensure the continued strength of laser remote sensing by encouraging young scientists to attend and present their work.
Workshop Goals
Review the current status of remote sensing research in Latin America.
Assess scientific needs for LiDAR measurements, instrument synergies, and the maturity of LiDAR techniques in Latin America to meet these needs.
Discuss challenges and future directions in remote sensing research and technology development.
Identify synergies and avenues to enhance LiDAR research projects through international cooperation among various agencies and organizations.
Document the workshop's outcomes by completing and updating the white paper from the previous workshop.
