What is P.A.D.E.?
The Panthers Academic Dual Enrollment (P.A.D.E.) program is a dual enrollment agreement between Cedar Grove High School and Montclair State University. CGHS students can earn 12 college credits in their junior and/or senior years at a reduced cost.
What does "dual enrollment" mean?
Dual enrollment means that students are concurrently enrolled in two distinct academic institutions - Cedar Grove High School and Montclair State University. The credits earned at MSU will count as both high school credits and college credits.
Credits completed at Montclair State University can be transferable to most colleges and universities across the country. Students do not have to continue their college education at MSU in order to receive credit. Every college and university reserves the right to determine whether or not they will accept transfer credits. Those decisions are often made contingent upon grades earned and intended college major. Students are encouraged to check with their desired colleges and universities regarding their transfer credit policies.
How does the P.A.D.E. program work?
P.A.D.E. juniors and seniors enroll in 4 morning classes at CGHS. They will also enroll in 2 afternoon classes at Montclair State University in the Fall semester, and 2 afternoon classes at MSU in the Spring semester.
What Montclair State University courses can I take?
Montclair State University opens their Program of Studies to CGHS students for all 100 level courses. CGHS students can also submit requests to waive into higher level courses depending on successful completion of prerequisite courses (i.e. AP exam scores or final grades) and professor approval.
Courses taken at MSU must have a start time of 11:30am or later to accommodate the morning block rotation at CGHS. Students involved in CGHS athletics and extra-curricular programs that meet after school can have the ability to enroll in the P.A.D.E. program by taking courses between 11:30am and 3:00pm.
How does P.A.D.E. impact credits, graduation, GPA, and transcripts?
Most college courses are one semester, 3-credit courses (some science courses have additional credits). Cedar Grove High School will award 5 CGHS credits towards graduation for successful completion of a one semester course at MSU. P.A.D.E. courses will be placed on the CGHS transcript and will indicate that the courses were taken at MSU, and will factor into the final cumulative GPA.
What are the eligibility requirements?
A review of academic, attendance, and behavioral records will be conducted in order to determine eligibility. Students who enroll in the P.A.D.E. program are considered "college students" by MSU and must display a level of self-motivation and organization necessary to be successful in college courses. P.A.D.E students are responsible for monitoring their own progress and seeking help when needed.
What about transportation?
P.A.D.E. students must be responsible for their own transportation to and from MSU.
How do I apply?
CGHS students apply to be a part of the P.A.D.E. program in the Spring of their sophomore and/or junior year. Once accepted into the program, P.A.D.E. students will register for MSU courses in accordance with the MSU scheduling timeline. P.A.D.E. applications must be submitted directly to the student's school counselor.
