Peer Leaders

Peer leaders are mentors who assist others in making good decisions and helping the 5th grade transition to middle school. The 7th and 8th grade Peer Leaders mentor the 5th grade students, but are also considered to be influencers of the building as role models, and within the greater CG community. As a Peer Leader, the students take experiences (including but not limited to correcting their own past mistakes), skills and training from LMTI, to successfully guide other students.

The Peer Leader Program is open for interested 7th and 8th grade students. Students interested must apply by 9/18/23. There are announcements made every AM leading up to the due date, and both grade levels were emailed the application. Students applying must have A's and B's as their final grades for the prior school year, and maintain the A or B average for the current school year. Applicants cannot have disciplinary infractions from the prior school year, and whilst a Peer Leader, must follow the school rules from their Panther Pad, and sign a contract with their parent/guardian signifying that they understand the responsibilities.

Lindsay Meyer Teen Institute is a program of Partners in Prevention, a non-profit organization. Their mission is to guide young peopole to realize their leadership portential and become empowered to create positive changes in themselves, their schools and communities. LMTI helps students look at challenges not as roadblocks to be feared or ignored, but as opportunities to be embraced and overcome. LMTI's program "Leader in You" trained the Peer Leaders in identifying and gaining their own personal leadership skils to assist them in the process of being advocates for prevention in their school and community. Leadership is defined in so many ways and leaders come in all shapes and sizes with different attitudes and abilities. Students learn that leaders are "built not born" and engaged in activities designed to help them define important elements of leadership, and identify those elements in themselves.

The Peer Leaders wrote/colored letters to deployed troops, caregivers, heroes, veterans, injured individuals, caregivers and more through Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude provides opportunities for the American people to express their gratitude and show our Military and first responders that what they do matters. To date, there has been a  total of 3.5 million Care Packages containing carefully chosen items meant to boost the morale and resilience of our service members and give them warm reminders of home. We are very proud to be part of that number!!!
