NJHS Selection Process
After the first marking period, academically qualifying students complete the Student Activity Information Form. At this point, the student is considered a candidate for membership.
Throughout the school year, candidates (and members) should meet the criteria by maintaining high academic standards, participating in various extracurricular and service activities, and serving as a role model to other students in the building as well as the greater community.
At the end of April/ May:
Candidates and members must submit a log of completed extracurricular and service activities.
The faculty completes a survey evaluating each candidate and member’s leadership, citizenship, and character in the building.
The Faculty Council meets to review Student Activity Information Forms, service logs, and evaluations done by the faculty.
The council consists of 4-5 anonymous faculty members who may or may not be familiar with candidates/members.
The adviser serves as a facilitator in the review process; the council determines if criteria for membership has been met.
Acceptance letter/ Induction Ceremony invitations sent out.
Candidates inducted as members at the ceremony.
