Welcome to Citizenship & Civics! ¡ Bienvenidos a Ciudadanía y civismo! Maligayang pagdating to Citizenship and Civics! Together we will engage in and participate in various forms of social and political action within our communities, and think about the global world around us. Together, as a class community, we will become historians and explore time periods before us. We will become sociologists and examine the people around us and how they behave with each other. We will become media experts and analyze the world around us through media. We will become activists and work together to bring about social and political change in our school community, the Casa Grande community, and other communities that we are a part of. We will become scholars and engage in community-grounded research. This Eighth Grade class is designed to critically examine power relations, human rights, and resistance between individuals and countries.
In Eighth Grade Citizenship & Civics we will be making connections between the past and present to better understand The United States of America. As a student in Citizenship & Civics, you will be able to promote from 8th grade understanding your rights and responsibilities as a person living in our Country.

Respect the histories and lived experiences of the diverse communities and individuals that we learn about in class. Please take every person’s and communities’ experiences seriously. Laughing or making a joke about someone’s history and experiences while someone is sharing their lived experiences is oppressive and will not be tolerated.
Allow all of your classmates to speak and be an avid lister.
Encourage your classmates for sharing an opinion, idea, or thought in class.
Do not be afraid to speak your mind, and to respectfully disagree with classmates and the teacher.

Grading: Assignments must be completed on time. If you miss an assignment deadline, you must fill out the “Grading Request Form” in order for your assignment to be graded.
Peer Support: Exchange phone numbers and emails with classmates for mutual support.
Academic Integrity: Cheating or copying will result in a ZERO. Do not do it.
