Title: Chem101 Organic - Semester Activation D28
Author: 101 Edu, Inc.
Cost Per Code: $28
ISBN: 978-1-7359195-3-9
The course aims to include all students of multiple intelligences. There are different types of assignments that determine the overall grade for this course. There are unit exams that cover a limited portion of the course material while the final exam is comprehensive in nature. All exams are closed book. All homework assignments are submitted online via Canvas or Chem101. Occasionally, extra credit assignments are assigned.
Is OChem a hard class?
It depends. If you master the fundamentals and the language well, then organic chemistry follows a pattern that is both interesting and predictable (at least at the fundamental level).
Do I need to attend class regularly even though recorded lectures are available online?
The class is hybrid format. You must attend class regularly either in person or online. I will mark attendance on all or most days. If you are absent for more than two lectures, you may be withdrawn.
What is the difference between a recorded lecture and a pencast?
All lectures will be recorded and posted in YouTube. A direct link will be available in Canvas for you to access these recorded videos. Pencasts are short videos that usually explain how to solve a problem or a difficult concept. Pencast links are also available in Canvas and are divided into topics.
What is the format of an exam in this class?
All exams contain both multiple choice and free response questions. Exams require you to draw (and erase!) and therefore, you are recommended to use a pencil. All exams are given in person.
Do you curve the exams?
I may curve all unit exams including the final although this really changes each semester. Practice exams with answer keys are available. These should be increase your confidence in both the material and taking the exam.
What is Chem 101?
Chem101 is the online platform that you purchase and will host most quizzes and homework assignments. Your grades in chem101 will be trasnferred to Canvas grade book. Chem101 typically offers students a smooth online experience. Very rarely, you might experience an odd glitch. Typically, this can be resolved quickly. The major advantage of chem101 is that you can use the app and also functions as a clicker (for polling and immediate feedback).
What is the difference between the work assigned in Chem101 and the one assigned in Canvas?
Chem101 contains only assignments. Canvas is the supporting website for your course. Here, you will find PowerPoint lectures, handouts, chapter summaries, additional practice problems and practice exams.
Is the textbook essential for my success?
It really depends. I provide ample material for you to review. Supporting material includes PowerPoint lectures, additional practice problems with answer keys, pencasts that explain how to solve a problem, recorded lectures and in some cases handouts on certain topics. The cheapest purchase may be the eText. You will find some options at the CGCC bookstore.
Do I need to take the lab course with the lecture?
The lecture and lab courses are independent. Lecture is a pre or a co requisite for the lab. You may not take the lab (if you don't need it) or you may take the lab in a different semester after completing the lecture this semester. I strongly recommend that you take the lecture and lab courses (if you need both) during the same semester.
Do I need to take the lab course at CGCC?
Based on MCCCD policies, you can take the lab course anywhere. However, the lab and lecture material may not sync if they are on different campuses.
