In kindergarten, students will study English language arts (reading and writing), social studies, mathematics, and science/health. These subjects meet the State of Ohio's subject standards and provide the foundation for academic progress and success. In addition to these subjects, students will have the opportunity to enjoy learning in the following areas:
The elementary school years are critical for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Led by our team of elementary school counselors, the Cuyahoga Falls City School District strives to help every child achieve academic success while also developing the social and emotional skills necessary for lifelong success. Through a combination of classroom lessons and small group and individual counseling, our school counseling department works to ensure the individual needs of each student are met. Our school counselors aim to support the whole child by maintaining support and communication with families and providing linkage to community resources when necessary.
Technology is introduced and integrated at the kindergarten level by presenting information to students that will allow hands-on learning using a personal Chromebook. Students utilize various websites to help them learn basic computer usage such as letter, number, and symbol location. Students also start to learn what the various buttons and features of a Chromebook can be used for both at school and at home.
The mission of the Cuyahoga Falls City School District library media centers is to ensure that every student is equipped with the information and literacy skills necessary to meet the challenges of the future and have access to resources with the knowledge necessary for successful research and pleasure reading. The Library Media Specialist will guide the students along this journey during their visits to the media center. Throughout the school year, the students will listen to a variety of stories. After each story, the students will learn which part of the media center this type of story is kept, such as the fiction, nonfiction, and easy reader sections, and then they will choose one book to bring home and read with their family. Along with the enjoyment of listening to a story, many of the reading and listening skills from the classroom will be reinforced, which will help create better readers.
Physical Education in kindergarten is a time for learning spatial awareness, gross motor skills, socialization skills, and more in a fun and supportive environment. Activities support the state's physical education standards in a safe and positive environment.
The visual art educators in the Cuyahoga Falls City School District are excited to welcome our new kindergarten artists each year into this wonderful period of newfound learning and exploration. Through our art program, students will be engaged in working with a variety of art materials and processes, with a focus on learning goals that are specified in the visual art state standards. In art class, we believe it is important to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment where instruction is focused on meeting the unique learning needs of every child. Our Black Tiger kindergarten students will embark on a special introduction into the history of art, the elements and principles of design, and the connection these concepts have within their lives. We look forward to having this opportunity to expand your child's understanding of this wonderful expression of humanity.
All Kindergarten students in the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools will receive a comprehensive music education that focuses on creating, producing/performing, and responding/reflecting. Students will master music concepts through the use of singing, playing instruments, collaborating with their peers, movement, and music listening. The music educators in the Cuyahoga Falls City School District believe that Kindergarten music is a time to explore the musical world around them and create experiences that inspire students to use their creative imaginations.
