Boys Golf Tryout Information  2025

Transportation to and from Ventana Golf course is not provided.  Please enter through the guard gate leading to The Lodge at Ventana Canyon.  Players should be dropped off or park at the overflow lot which is near the Lodge pool complex. Practice begins at 2:45 (3:45 on Friday's).  Be sure to have communicated with your counselor that you are a golfer.  This should give them the ability to give you 7th period free or a study hall. In the event of a study hall, you will be excused from the study hall once you have submitted a note from your parents to the study hall teacher and the front office that indicates they will be picking you up to travel to golf. This should be done in advance of the first day of practice. Check out through the front gate or front office to leave for practice. In some cases, students' schedules cannot be changed.  Please notify me immediately if you cannot have a schedule changed to accommodate a release at the end of 6th period. Players are not excused from a class other than study hall to participate in golf practice. Players scheduled into a 7th hour class will arrive late each practice missing at least the first hour of practice. Players can text me to find our location at Ventana once they are on property. 

Be sure to dress appropriately for the golf course and the weather. Proper golf attire is a must (no denim, no cargo shorts, no athletic shorts, shirts must be tucked in and have a collar). Please have your own water bottle to refill on course. We may be walking the course so plan accordingly. Push carts are allowed. Practice times are on the golf calendar.  Check often as they are subject to change and weather permitting.  We will not practice if lightning is within 10 miles.  We will immediately seek shelter and start the lightning delay. Safety is our priority.  We must wait 30 minutes until the lightning is not within 10 miles.  Often that means canceling practice for the day.  Players can wait for pick up inside the lobby of The Lodge for weather delays. Otherwise, pick up should be in the overflow lot. Players who drive are asked to leave immediately at the end of practice.

Tryouts will be an evaluation of ability based on a combination of range drills, short game drills, putting and play on course. Every effort will be made to give players multiple opportunities to demonstrate their playing abilities as well as decision making on course. 

A reminder that to try out for the team, players must have registered on Register My Athlete and be cleared online by July 31, 2025. Online registration is open. Please contact me if you have any questions. See you on August 11!
