The library is staffed by a full-time certified Teacher Librarian, Mrs. Newgard, and supported by a Media Secretary, Mrs. Kuehl.
Collection Policy We follow district policy 603.3 for the selection of all materials for Orchard Hill Elementary Library. Formal complaints on materials or books in the library can be filed using the form at the end of the policy listed above.
Library Media Policies and Procedures Orchard Hill Library is a warm, inviting place providing students and staff immediate access to materials needed for learning. The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. Our hope is to foster a love of reading and create curious lifelong learners. All students are encouraged to read widely and often.
Class in the Library We have a modified flexible schedule that follows the four-day cycle. Each class comes to the Library once every four days. Teachers are able to schedule additional time in the library when students are working on special projects or schedule time for the teacher librarian to come into the classroom. Essential Skills for the library program are in place. These are the same for all seven elementary libraries.
Checkout Policies Each checkout is for two weeks. Books can be returned and renewed between classroom visits. Students may take as many books as they need to keep them reading until the next library day.
* We want to allow each child at our school access to our library, therefore, we do not charge overdue fines. We do however restrict checkout for students with two or more books overdue. Once a book(s) is(are) returned or replaced, the child is allowed full checkout access.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Newgard.
We follow all state laws and guidelines for our local school policies as well as guidelines set aside by the American Library Association.
