During the school year the website is regularly updated with notes on upcoming events or messages on the home page and assignments located at the bottom of the home page. On the assignment schedule you will also find dates for tests. Parents in the past requested this so they could assist their child in studying in advance. Also, the assignment page helps you touch base and compare with your child's assignment book which must go home each night and be signed or initialed by parents to indicate that you have seen it and know if there was any homework. This is an important organizational tool, and third grade is their first opportunity to use it. If you will need to take your child out of school for a family event or emergency, the assignment page allows you to see what was assigned that day. During the flu season, it saves class time writing MANY lists of make-up work.
This web page and e-mail are the most effective communication tools I have. I check my e-mail regularly throughout the day when students are at recess, lunch, specials. I may contact you in the event I need to let you know about missing homework or share some special news to celebrate. I can be reached by phone but not during instruction time. If you need to contact me during that time, please leave a voice mail message, and I will return your call as soon as possible. If it is an emergency, you will be able to switch to the office, and Mrs. Voves will interrupt. She is able to override the block on outside calls.
Please check your child's assignment book, or planner, and then verify that homework, if any, is completed. Since this is usually the child's first time to be held accountable for this type of responsibility, it can take a lot of reminding until it becomes a habit.
A typical night of homework should average about 20 minutes. This may include an assignment in Spelling and one other subject. Additionally, students are to read at least 20 minutes per night.
Currently, the students are encouraged to be timely with their homework. Homework turn-in is being tracked.
Daily homework is due the day after it is assigned (unless otherwise noted). If a student fails to do this, a slip, which has a carbon copy that remains with the teacher, will be attached to his/her assignment notebook or given to the student. The assignment and slip must be returned the following day completed and signed by a parent.
