To be nominated for Academic All-State, a student must be:
An athlete, student trainer, or manager in good standing with the team
Of good moral character
A senior
Have an overall grade point average of 92 or above (including courses from grades 9-11 and courses completed from grade 12). Weighted GPAs accepted. Please note all GPA’s must be numerical on a 100 point scale (92-100). GPA’s under 92 will not be considered.
While the student might initially meet the criteria for nomination, that does not guarantee the student a spot on a team.
Nominations may be submitted by any coach of the prospective sport as long as the head coach of that sport is a current member of THSCA. If the head coach is not a member, the nomination will be deemed ineligible. When reviewing the nominations, the THSCA considers each student’s GPA, class rank, SAT, and/or ACT score. The students receive points based on each criterion. The total number of points they receive determines which team they are placed on. The classification of the school is not a factor, and there is no limit on the total number of players that can make a team.
The best team a player can make is the Elite Team, which requires a near-perfect score in all categories. After Elite comes the following teams: 1st Team | 2nd Team | Honorable Mention
It is the goal of District 17-6A to recognize our student athletes for their achievements both on and off the field.
Each school and respective sport in District 17-6A will pick an Academic All-District Team based on the following standard and consistent criteria:
Each member of the academic all-district team will be a participating member of the varsity team (Athlete, Trainer, Manager) that finished the season in good standing. Managers and trainers who serve the entire season as a varsity manager or trainer may be included for consideration.
Each member of the academic all-district team will have a composite grade point average of 90 or higher for all classes for the identified grading periods that make up the majority of their respective seasons. Athletes’ grades from advanced courses on their district-approved exemption list will receive 10 additional points when calculating the cumulative grade point average. Every effort will be made to control for differences in the grading calendar between different school districts.
The following grading periods will be used for the different fall, winter, and spring sports:
CFISD/SBISD: 1st and 2nd grading periods for Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Water Polo & Team Tennis
CFISD/SBISD: 2nd and 3rd grading periods for Basketball
CFISD/SBISD: 3rd and 4th grading periods for Soccer, Golf, Spring Tennis, Track, Softball, and Baseball
