Language Arts consists of grammar, spelling, and writing.

Grammar: We practice a new skill each week. Students are introduced to the new skill through the study of a mentor sentence. They add the skill to their Grammar Notebook. They then practice the skill with hands-on activities, partner work, and individual work.
Spelling: Students are given 15 words every 2 weeks. Three of their words are identified as vocabulary high frequency words and 12 of their words follow a certain pattern. They do a variety of activities with their words in class. This helps them understand the spelling rules and to get ready for the spelling test. Spelling tests take place every other week.
Writing: Students begin the year writing personal narratives. We then move on to Expository writing. We also do research writing, persuasive writing, fiction writing, and poetry writing.
Writing STAAR Test: The Writing STAAR Test is April ???. It will consist of an expository essay and revising/editing questions.
