MISSION, PHILOSOPHY, OBJECTIVES

MISSION

The mission of the library at Bridgeland High School is to provide literary and technical support to students, staff, and our community. We are here to encourage curiosity and critical thinking, grow enthusiastic and life-long readers, develop effective and authentic researchers, and collaborate with all to create a nurturing and respectful school climate.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that the library is the information and technology hub of a school community. Libraries are institutions built on life principles of service, integrity, propriety, and inclusion. They have maintained these original ideas through the years and have grown with the times. I remain true to this calling and look to the future for guidance on serving patrons.

I believe my job as a librarian is:

to serve the students and staff by providing resources for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people.

to maintain a collection that is timely, diverse, appealing, and age-appropriate.

to research resources and defend the process by which they are selected to be in our collection.

to include resources that may not align with our own personal beliefs and NOT excluding resources that are associated with views that do not align my own.

to keep the library open and accessible to all staff and all students for reading, perusal, and circulation to the maximum extent possible.

to make the library a place to display student work.

to keep abreast of new technologies and support the students and staff with accessing technology and utilizing it in a variety of methods in their classrooms.

to love and serve all and share my love of reading.

to keep accurate and orderly records.

to budget our money with wisdom, thought, and reason.

OBJECTIVES

  • provide effective instruction on research and the use of electronic resources, acting as a gateway to information, but also as a reliable guide for access and use of information .

  • actively participate in the quest for literacy in our community through book drives, book fairs, author visits, reading incentive plans, book tournaments, district book adoptions, and language acquisition programs.

  • support the use of our space for campus and community gatherings, including, and not limited to: faculty meetings, professional development, campus improvement team meetings, campus celebrations, and testing.
