Part of enjoying the band is being successful on your instrument. This isn't a test, and you can't fail. The Instrument Matching Tool will help match you with the right instrument! EVERYONE can be in music. At the end, you will be asked to list your instrument preferences in priority order. Click here to be taken to "BE A PART OF THE MUSIC" to begin.
Once you have finished your instrument matching tool assessment you can schedule a time to meet with a band director 1 on 1 to discuss your top three instruments. We take into account your interests, alongside physical/social characteristics, to determine the instrument that your child will have the most success on.
You can schedule your meeting here: CLICK THIS LINK
Please note: If you schedule a meeting and have not completed the instrument matching tool then you will be asked to complete it while you are visiting the campus (which will delay your meeting with a band director)
Most of our students in the Bleyl MS Band rent an instrument through either Music & Arts or H&H Music. These companies offer rent-to-own systems designed with first-year students in mind. They allow families to pay over time towards an instrument with a low amount of initial investment. Students who continue to pursue band will end up with a quality instrument that will allow them to be successful and have the most positive experience.
Families choosing to rent from these companies simply need to follow the links provided at your meeting/email, enter our school name, and follow the prompts to complete the rental process. The store will allow you to choose if you want the instrument delivered to the school or held at the store for your pick-up. We do not recommend having the instrument shipped to your home.
The rental process (in most cases) also includes a maintenance/repair program that allows for low/no-cost repair and cleaning of all instruments.
For families who choose to purchase an instrument for their child, we ask the following:
You purchase the new/used version of the recommended instrument brand/model on your child's instrument supply list. ( If you have another in mind please email zachary.muddiman@cfisd.net )
You purchase the recommended brands for your child's accessory items that are listed on their supply sheets. Certain brands may offer "cheap" prices on various items, but often come with the cost of quality and provide a poor experience for your child.
You ensure that your child has every item on the supply list. We only request that you purchase necessary items without waste, but we will utilize all the supplies that are on that list starting from the beginning of the school year.
Disclaimer!!!!
Watch out for ISO (instrument-shaped objects) on online sites like Amazon. They offer CHEAP instruments that are built with low-quality materials and in assembly lines without quality inspections. These instruments more often than not do not last the school year, and cause many of our students to have unsatisfactory results when attempting to learn an instrument. If you are interested in a low-cost option PLEASE email a band director to check on its quality before you purchase.
