Learn what’s involved in registering with CRA’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) [referred to as the ITAVP in Quebec] and the funding and training that’s available. Participants will also get helpful, practical advice from community food centres that have lots of firsthand experience and tips for making tax clinics manageable, no matter which way you decide to approach them.
The federal government relies heavily on the tax system to get money to low-income Canadians. But many are missing out because they don’t know about the benefits, haven’t filed their taxes, or haven’t applied. In this info-session, Prosper Canada will explain what tax credits and benefits are and introduce participants to their Benefits Wayfinder, an online tool anyone can use to find out what government benefits they’re eligible for and how to apply. Participants will also learn about the many free trainings and materials available on Prosper Canada’s online Learning Hub and who to ask if questions come up while they’re helping someone fill out an application for a benefit.
