Learn How To Help Your Students Digitally Publish Their Stories!

We all have a story to tell! Creating and publishing digital stories is a great way for students to tell their story! And, since our stories will be digital, we can now easily share our stories with a greater audience. How exciting and motivating!

When we use the term, digitale, we are referring to a digital story. Typically, most people think of an ebook when they think of digital stories. Although, a digitale might also be in the format of a video where someone is narrating the story. Therefore, as you look at the variety of apps and programs you have available to use, you will want to determine if you want to have the final product look more like an eBook or one that includes a narration and is in the format of a video.

As you walk through learning about how to create digitales, you will explore different tools and determine which fits best with your curriculum goals, the devices you have access to, and the ease of sharing with others. We have a variety of tools for you to explore, but in the end you will select one to create a demo to share with your students.

Explore Your Digital Tool Options

Step 1: Explore this recommended app/program chart to determine which tools will work with the tools you have access to. Look in the device column to determine works with a chromebook, computer or iPad. Do you have access to enough devices to have your students create their ebook? This will help you to narrow down your options.

Step 2: Watch the example videos for the tools that are currently on your narrowed down list.

Step 3: Briefly explore the tutorial resources, features, restrictions and grade level appropriateness to explore which app/program might be best for your grade level.

Step 4: Determine if you want your students to create an eBook with sound or without sound.

Step 5: Select one tool to use. (Still confused and struggling with only choosing one. Contact your Campus ITS for their recommendations and experiences!)

Provide an Opportunity for Your Students to Create Their Own Digitale!

It's time to have your students become published authors! Here are some tips for providing opportunities for your students to create and publish their digitale stories!

  • Have a plan in case the technology doesn't work. What's your back-up plan?
  • Students will be publishing so others besides just you will see their work. Remind students to do their best and decide if you will provide additional support to "fix" their writing. This might be a discussion to have with your administrators. Does it have to be "perfect"? Or, do you some how let others know that students are demonstrating developmentally appropriate grade level work?
  • Celebrate with your students when their work is shared with others! The power of giving students a voice to others outside the school is amazing!
  • A little nervous? That's okay! We all have been there! Give it a shot! Keep in mind that learning is a little uncomfortable. You and your students will be learning together!
  • Most importantly - remember you are not alone! Contact your Campus DLS for support!

Share Your Experience!
