Military enlistment is a great option for interested students after high school because of the expanding number of occupational specialties and careers across the service branches. The Military as Postsecondary Option video on our CFBISD CCMR Youtube channel is a good starting point for exploring options: https://youtu.be/1gPM3umDBlQ
Students can explore different military career opportunities by visiting the website for each service branch or by going to the Careers in the Military website (www.careersinthemilitary.com/options-military ), which is hosted by the career exploration branch of the ASVAB exam.
The ASVAB is a free career aptitude assessment. Students will need a qualifying ASVAB score to enlist that is different for each service branch and for different assignments in the military. We are offering the ASVAB on December 1 at Creekview. In addition to the Careers in the Military site listed above, students can find free information and a practice ASVAB test here: https://www.military.com/join-armed-forces/asvab
Each branch also has different physical and background requirements (such as rules about eyesight requirements) that could influence a student’s options for the career they will pursue in the military. Entry requirements can be found by visiting a specific branch’s website or recruiter.
Assigned recruiters for each branch are the best source for the most up-to-date information about opportunities in the military. The Armed Forces Career Center at 2150 N. Josey Lane in Carrollton hosts recruiters from each branch; students can visit the center, or with parent permission the CCMR team can help connect students with a recruiter (some branches have different recruiters depending on the county or high school).
