About Us

Approximately 130 students start band in the sixth grade in homogeneous classes – flute, double reed, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium/tuba and percussion. The 180 seventh and eighth grade students are placed in one of three performing groups – Honors Band, Symphonic Band and Concert Band. All bands meet every day for 50 minutes. Students in the Honors Band and Symphonic Band also attend a once a week, 45-minute sectional rehearsal outside of the regular school day throughout the school year. Private lessons are strongly encouraged and are available during the school day.

All of the Blalack Middle School Bands perform at events and concerts throughout the year. All 7/8th grade band students perform at pep rallies, an 8th grade football game, Fall Concert, Winter Concert, CFBISD pre-UIL Contest, UIL Contest, Spring Concert and other band contests in the North Texas area. The Beginner Band perform in the fall as homogeneous groups and as a band for the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and one other contest in the DFW area. The Blalack Band also manages its own Ensemble Contest in February and Solo Contest in May. All band members are strongly encouraged to participate in both events.
