How are we going to raise awareness and involve your community?
As you may know, the ocean is one of the largest ecosystems in the world and one of the most polluted. Currently, the planet has been through a lot of changes as a consequence of human actions. An example is the garbage they throw away not in the correct place, that may go to pollute someone's home. In this case, marine animals' habitats have been damaged over the years by activities or objects of human beings. People must know that life under the sea is as important as terrestrial life.
If somebody breaks into your place without your permission and starts throwing all your garbage around your house and leaves without saying a word, how would you feel? The same way you felt by reading this question, animals may feel it too. You would be able to clean all the garbage around but animals do not have the ability to do it. Every time people throw plastic bottles or plastic bags after using it, they do not stop and think about the place that the trash might go. That's one of the reasons oceans get polluted.
We should get together to make small changes that in the future will make a big difference. Start recycling in your own house, like water bottles, plastic bags, soda cans, etc. Then you should bring it to our organization for raising money so that we can afford new projects for helping the environment. Or you can contribute by throwing the trash in the correct place. Every little action might save a life.
What kind of activities are we going to implement?
First, we will have an icebreaker activity which consists of people that follow our organization to get to know each other. This activity will help us know about why are people following our organization and how can they benefit from their experiences. After that, there would be a conference with an expert about marine life. We will know how marine life helps us and why is it important to protect them. And also about all of the benefits of it if we protect them for our own future life and generations.
The third activity would be classes that people can take online about underwater marine life, and how we humans are damaging and endangering them with the action of fishing. These classes will be an hour long, and anybody who likes the topic of marine life can join. After the icebreaker activity and classes about marine life, the very first important event will be the collection of funds so the organization can run. This will be done with minigames, but each time you want to play you have to pay, and each time you lose you will at least get a prize at the end. This event is very important to us because this is a non-profit organization.
The fifth activity that everyone can do, even children is an ocean/beach cleanup activity. This will help the oceans or beaches look cleaner and it can even help the marine life that gets affected by all the trash there is accumulated. Another activity that can be done is a stop using plastic day. This consists that a day each week or month all the people in our community will not use any plastic, so people can't use any water bottles or straws. This will help the world because there would be reduced plastic waste that everybody generates.
What are our resources? Are we going to ask for support or collaboration from other organizations? Which ones?
We started recycling plastic bottles for 6 months, 3 per day as a minimum. Then we started recycling metal cans for more help. After those months we found a place where we could sell them and start saving the money for the promotion and administration in the future. Since that moment we began to encourage what our project promoted. We started with a total of 2000 dollars as a beginning of our resources.
Since the project will start with something simple, at the moment we will not need a collaboration, except for the community. As we progress in the project, we will request collaborations or support with companies or other organizations that provide members, materials, or money. They could also support our project with small workshops to raise awareness. Also we can promote an activity in which different collaborations are involved with the same purpose, where enough money or material is raised for the advancement of activities. Small changes at some point will make a difference.
Some supporters may be veterinarians who could help us with animals that we will rescue when we are cleaning the beaches or parts of the ocean. They could also give to the community from the project and externals a talk about the needs of each marine animal to find ways to carry them out. Or also the no less important, the community, who are of great importance for this project. They would help us mainly by taking care of their habits towards the environment. In which they will stop polluting costals areas, as well as stop fishing marine animals to stop the extinction of species. Also Ocean Conservancy and Marine Conservation Institute and Oceana.
