World Languages

Course Overview

5th Grade World Language - Spanish is an exploratory course, reviewing and continuing the K-4 Spanish curriculum. The class meets once a week for the first trimester. This class focuses on different cultures around the world (primarily focusing on the Spanish speaking world) by exploring FOOD.

Everyone comes to this class with a different level of Spanish, so we start with a Spanish review unit to get everyone on the same page. We then learn food vocabulary and practice how to talk about and order food in Spanish. We then learn what foods people eat in the Spanish speaking world and what their food tells us about their culture. We finish the year with a fiesta in which students are welcome (but not required) to bring in food from a Spanish speaking country. Because this class meets just once a week, there is typically no homework assigned, unless a student has missed class or needs to catch up.
