Welcome back! Hope you had a restful summer. Updates are happening now so check back regularly!
We have several bands between our two schools.
Grade 5 music is where it begins learning about bucket drumming, boomwhackers, composer study, instrument building, music theory games and ukulele.
Beginner band starts in grade 6 and all are given the opportunity to try out an instrument.
7/8 band runs during our CTF time at IMS. Day 1 & 3 for grade 7 and Day 2 & 4 for grade 8.
Jazz band is after school on Monday and Thursday.
Senior band runs Tuesday and Wednesday after school.
Did you know that the Innisfail Music Program(IMPS) celebrated 50 years in 2020? Over the years, this program has been fortunate enough to have great community and parent support to travel and perform in many places. The band has travelled to Vancouver, Washington, California, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, and even Australia! There have been hundreds of local performances such as festivals, school concerts, senior’s homes, Rotary Club Dinners, church performances, awards nights, jazz cafes, Olympic torch ceremony, dessert concerts, community band concerts, Remembrance Day ceremonies, art nights, ensemble concerts, workshops, guest artists, and many Innisfail Rodeo Parades. Special thanks to The Rotary Club of Innisfail, Kinettes, Lions Club, Johns Manville and private donors who have allowed the program to build up instruments that are still used every day in our program. Thank you also to those who have sponsored awards and music scholarships to celebrate our student successes and encourage them to grow in music.
It has been a real blessing to be a part of this organization, to see it grow, to hear it bloom. The players have made it what it is over the years and continue to share that love of music with audiences today. Many of the former students have gone on to continue playing their instruments either professionally or just for fun.
We have a strong Band Parent Association that has helped with numerous fundraisers over the years to give our students amazing opportunities. From workshops, purchasing instruments and supplies, to serving our community and hosting events, they really are an amazing group of people. We meet approximately once per month on Sunday evenings at 6:30pm.
