Dear Future AP Precalculus Student,
I hope you are excited for the year of Precalculus that we will be pursuing together! We will be having a lot of fun—and doing a lot of work. AP Precalculus will prepare you for college-level mathematics and science courses in the fields of mathematics, physics, biology, health science, social science, and data science. You’ll work with various mathematical functions in the course and understand how they can model real-world scenarios in order to interpret or predict future outcomes, as well as understand limitations of such modeling.
In order to give you a head start in the understanding of Precalculus, we have designed a few things for you to do. The purpose of this assignment is to learn how to use essential components of the TI-spire Graphing Calculator. I hope that these videos and overview of the calculator we will use will help you to improve your skills so we can hit the ground running from day one.
AP Precalculus is a fast-paced course that is taught at the college level. There is a lot of material in the curriculum that must be covered before the AP exam in May. Therefore, we cannot spend a lot of class time teaching basic calculator & prerequisite skills. This is why you have this assignment. Try your best to complete this assignment on your own. It would be in your best interest to not copy others or try and cheat. Again, all of the material covered in this packet needs to be known in order to be successful in our class next year.
The packet is DUE ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. You must SHOW ALL OF YOUR WORK to get full credit on each problem. If there is not enough space provided, you may attach a separate sheet of paper with that problem neatly numbered so it can be easily identified.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to e-mail me over the course of the summer. Most importantly, I hope you have a wonderful summer and best of luck on the packet. I look forward to working with each and every one of your next year. See you in August!
Regards,
Danica Page & Tucker Schwarberg

Check out a TI-Nspire Graphing Calculator from the library during Finals Week.
The primary purpose of this summer assignment is for you to get familiar with the TI-Nspire graphing calculator. It will be our primary technological instrument and you will be required to use one on nearly a daily basis. I have created a series of videos to get you familiar with the basic functions of the calculator and a couple of techniques that you will be required to do during class.
Watch each video in sequence, then complete the problems below.
#1: The Basics of the TI-Nspire
#2: Using the Graphing Tab
#3: Using the Calculator Tab
#4: Using the Lists & Spreadsheets Tab
#5: Desmos Graphing Calculator
