Bulldog Block

22-23 Regular Bell Schedule/Planning Day

What is Bulldog Block?

As a part of a school-wide effort to further our focus on learning and success for every student, a period of intervention and extension is built into our school day. This period, known as “Bulldog Block,” is designed to provide timely and specific support to students who are working towards mastery of essential learning or are ready to be challenged with learning beyond grade level expectations.

During the “Bulldog Block” period, students attend a class, referred to as “sessions,” based on a need identified by a teacher, or a session that meets the student’s self-identified need. Bulldog Block sessions typically fall into one of three categories: intervention, extra help or extension. Intervention sessions are designed to support students in mastering a specific learning target or skill. Extra help sessions may be more general to a content area or need, but not always skill specific. Extension sessions are designed to extend or enrich student learning in areas for which they have already shown proficiency. Session offerings for each department may change weekly depending on the identified needs of students.

The unique scheduling for Bulldog Block sessions is completed through the Enriching Students website (more information located here). This is a software we believe both students and parents will appreciate the additional features once acclimated to the program.

Teachers regularly meet to create sessions offered the following week as well as identify students who may be in need of support. Students may start making selections for sessions starting Friday mornings as all the sessions being offered the following week will be listed. Students attempting to sign up prior to Friday morning may not always find an appropriate session because the teachers are given Wednesday and Thursday to schedule it into the program. Students are able to sign up and adjust their schedule up until the morning of the session day, however it is recommended that all students schedule themselves into appropriate sessions the Friday before to ensure they get into everything they need.

Some basic understanding of how the program works:

  • Teachers create sessions for each week and begin scheduling those into the system on Wednesdays.

  • Starting Friday, students should schedule themselves into sessions for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A student can always adjust their schedule as needed, but the key is for them to sign up as far ahead as possible to secure a spot in sessions that will help them.

  • If a teacher flags a student for their session, students will not have a choice for that day and will see this on their “My Week” tab in Enriching Students

  • If a student is not flagged, they can sign up for the sessions they feel they need to get extra help or extend their learning.

  • Since Enriching students is an online-based software, it can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection. Thus, students can sign-up for sessions while on campus or at home through their Chromebook or mobile device.

Please encourage your child to take full advantage of the opportunities that Bulldog Block offers by ensuring they sign up for their sessions weekly. All students will have an Enriching Students account that you are encouraged to review with them for information on available sessions that will support them in their learning. Students have the opportunity at school to use an internet enabled device before school, after school, and during lunch time. Students who fail to sign up for a session by 10:00 AM on session day will be again provided an opportunity to select a session, but will receive consequences for repeatedly waiting until after the deadline.

We look forward to seeing students continue to grow in their learning as they receive support and enrichment through Bulldog Block.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will this benefit students?

Bulldog Block provides students, teachers, and staff with a flexible, personalized time to target specific learning needs. This time will be used to provide students with intervention based upon needs, extend or enrich an individual's learning experience, and/or host college/career sessions without removing students from academic instruction.

What if the student is doing well in all his/her classes?

Students will have the autonomy to sign up for sessions which are designed to challenge, expand, support, and enrich student learning. There will also be sessions which allow students to work independently with the support of a teacher, as well as make-up work or assessments.

What if the student is struggling in multiple classes?

Students will be assigned to intervention sessions based upon individual needs, where students will receive reteaching and support in small group settings with the purpose of fostering student success. If a student is not assigned by a teacher on any given day, students will self-assign a session to attend.

How and when do students sign up for labs?
