Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway

Industry Sector - Arts, Media, and Entertainment

The Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry sector prepares students at a global level to enter fields within the creative communication industry.  Under the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry sector, one will find four main pathways. The four main paths include; Media and Design Arts, Performing Arts, Production and Managerial Arts, and Game and Simulation Design. Each pathway has a unique set of California based standards for curriculum and design to prepare students for internships, job shadowing, entry into college-level programs, and the ability to earn Bachelor of Arts degrees successfully.

Pathway - Media and Design Arts

The Media and Design Arts pathway includes a variety of occupations in the visual arts, digital media, and web-based communication sector. Students in this pathway learn extensive use and understanding of specific industry-based technology and programs. Students also learn how to create, communicate, and produce complex concepts in Media Arts via a multitude of platforms ranging from Adobe Photoshop to Instagram. To complete the Media Arts pathway, students need to complete two courses in the path. Each class is a full school year, and the first course needs to be followed by a capstone course.

Due to legislation passed in 2017, Bill AB 37 requires a select group of education experts to recommend standards and best practices for Media Arts.  The panel consists of 18 members. Through this legislation, the Media Arts program sector continues to grow.
