Story boarding is often a process that gets overlooked when students are wanting to create a film.  The reason I believe is that students don't have the knowledge to fully understand what they want to shoot/film. In some cases they are also lacking the planning, team work and communication skills in order to create a meaningful storyboard. I have also witnessed teachers who make the storyboard process so regiment and controlled that the students turn off from the activity or never get started because their storyboarding didn't meet the teacher standards or the students didn't complete all the boxes in a template. Story boards are important it is also important, to know when to move your students onto the filming component. Don't over do the storyboard process!!  Please also make sure you and your students look through this site to gain a better understanding of the film making process and inevitably create better storyboards and even better films.

A story board is going to provide you with a plan and bring structure to your film crew 's roles and responsibilities especially when the time comes to shoot your film.  A well thought out story board will create a greater sense of team work a less stressful shoot and make you overall more efficient.

This is an Apple Pages template . It is a great resources for students who have access to an iPad. Students start their story board by taking photos of each scene or shot selection they intend to use instead of drawing the shots as done in more traditional storyboards.  This is a great quick way for students and teachers to understand if they have understood the film making fundamentals and it provides a sneak peak into what the finished film may look like.

Student Stimulus

This is a good video to understand the importance of story boarding in film making. Even the pros do it!!!

A good video but in most cases this is beyond what is most likely possible for most beginner film makers.
