Hello! My name is Mrs. Moss. You can usually find me in my classroom at Centura teaching HS students some awesome math. Click on the links in the title area at the top of the page to learn more about the classes I teach, my expectations for that class, and the lesson plans for that week.
Grades are earned through quizzes and tests. Daily homework is not graded since much of what we work at learning is taking the student's background knowledge to a new level of understanding. Homework is a chance to practice without fear of failure. Sometimes worksheets or IXL skills are graded if it is not the first day we are practicing a skill. I will not accept papers at the end of the quarter in a last ditch effort to raise a score. Extra credit is sometimes offered to the class as a whole but never to an individual as a "save me" request. It is important to earn the grade by doing homework and preparing for assessments consistently.
A little bit about me...
My name is Dorothy Moss and I am pleased to be teaching here at Centura this year. I was raised on a farm north of Boelus. In the spring of 1982 I graduated from Centura and in the spring of 1986 I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Kearney State College. I taught for one year in Sargent, NE, and then took a few years off to get married and start a family. After 36 years, I'm still married to my hard working husband. My son has earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing and Management at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and a Master's from Midland University in Fremont, NE, and married a lovely young woman in April 2013. They had their first child, a daughter, in May 2016, a second daughter in November 2019, and a sone in August 2022. My daughter has earned her BA in Middle School Education endorsed in math and social sciences from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and teaches math here at Centura as well. She married a kind young man in July 2020 amidst the pandemic. They had their first child, a son, in June of 2021. For the past thirty years, I have been teaching at Centura Public School. Year twenty-six was a new and exciting adventure teaching with my daughter! I am a member of the School Leadership Team. In the past I have coached JV volleyball, junior high volleyball, and sponsored the National Honor Society. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. My interests include spending time reading, learning, doing puzzles, shopping, playing piano, and listening to music.
