The Social Studies 6 course will explore the major ancient civilizations from around the world, including Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and China, while focusing on the five strands of social studies—history, geography, economics, civics/government, and culture. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how these civilizations developed, interacted with their environments, governed their people, managed resources, and expressed their beliefs and traditions. Students will examine key historical events and figures, analyze maps and geographic features, investigate early economic systems and trade networks, explore the origins of governments and legal systems, and discover the rich cultural legacies that continue to influence the modern world. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, comparative analysis, and making connections between the past and present. Interactive projects, group discussions, and primary source analysis will empower students to become thoughtful and informed global citizens. By the end of the course, students will not only understand the unique contributions of ancient civilizations but also recognize the interconnectedness of the human experience across time and place.
