Reading 6 is a course designed to enhance students' critical thinking skills as they apply various active reading strategies. Students will practice and develop their analysis and interpretation of texts, as well as build vocabulary, through the study of various literary genres. In reading 6, students will read novels, short stories, nonfiction text, poetry, and drama. Social Studies content will be embedded into the reading curriculum when appropriate with certain texts. Students will engage in the learning process through many different experiences: class discussions, group/partner work, Literature Circles, technology-based activities/projects, and writing. Course work will also include Common Core standards-based supplemental materials such as instructional workbooks, Study Island and Accelerated Reader to enhance learning in the classroom.
