Dear Parents:
Hello. I am Ryan McLean and will be your child's fifth grade teacher this year. If your child is in my homeroom, they will have me for math and science. They will also have Mr. Burhenn for ELA, spelling and social studies. If your child is in Mr. Burhenn's room, they will also have me for math and science.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I am the oldest of a large family and was born and raised in the North Hills section of Pittsburgh, graduating from North Allegheny High School in 1994. I graduated from Grove City College in 1998 with a degree in Elementary Education and spent the 1998-99 school year as a sixth grade teacher in the Butler School District. I began teaching in Center the following year and this year will be my twenty-seventh in the combined Center/CV district.
My wife Andrea (who works as an aide at St. Frances Cabrini Preschool) and I are blessed to have two sons who keep us busy. Zach is nineteen and is starting his sophomore year at Seton Hill University. He plays baseball there as a pitcher and is majoring in exercise science. He redshirted last year due to some elbow issues but was solid over the summer and is hoping to be a key part of their team this spring. Luke is a junior at the high school and plays basketball and runs (or jumps and vaults I guess) track in the spring. He also enjoys music, being able to play the piano, guitar, and now the drums as well. They both spend a lot of time working out for their sports and this summer they both got very into golfing.
In my free time, I am usually doing something sports-related, although now that both my kids are older, I get a break from coaching and can now just watch them from the stands. I do enjoy golfing and sometimes fishing when I can and like being outside as long as it’s not too hot. I also follow the stock market and enjoy watching all college and pro sports. I’ve become a soccer fan (Tottenham Hotspur) over the past decade or so but also enjoy basketball (Sixers and Pitt), football (Steelers and Pitt), and baseball(no comment). I taught myself to play the guitar over the last few years so I mess around with that a little along with exercising/walking/strength training/etc as my aging body allows.
I look forward to working with your child this year. It will be a challenging year in more ways than just the academics, but if they work hard and put their best efforts forth, they will be successful and learn a tremendous amount of information. If you ever need to contact me, please email me at rmclean@centralvalleysd.net. Thank you.
