Our Philosophy

"You can't educate a student who isn't healthy, and you can't keep children healthy who aren't educated."

~ Unknown

"Healthy kids perform better academically, attend school more often, and behave better in class."

~ American School Health Association

The Philosophy of the Central Valley School District Health Services Department is to work within the regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing to meet the school health mandates outlined by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and to support a level of wellness ensuring students have the opportunity to achieve maximum benefit from their educational experience.

The Pennsylvania Certified School nurse serves in a pivotal role that bridges health care and education. Through education, prevention, and early intervention the Health Services Department works collaboratively with school, community, and families to foster the student's ability to become a healthy, productive adult. The Health Services Department is dedicated to:

- Providing health screenings (mandated by the PA Department of Health and as requested by parent/guardian)

- Hearing screening (K, 1, 2, 3, 7, 11)

- Height, weight, and vision screening (every grade, every year)

- Scoliosis screening (6, 7)

- Providing support for children with chronic health problems

- Monitoring immunizations

- Providing health education programs for students and staff

- Being members of student support teams

- Administering medications and providing nursing procedures

- Working as a resource for families on available community health care programs
