Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to continue our Accelerated Reader (AR) program at Todd Lane Elementary! AR is designed to encourage students to read independently, choose books that are a good fit for their reading level, and build strong reading comprehension skills.
Students take the STAR Reading Test throughout the school year. This assessment helps us determine each child's reading level and their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)βthe range of books that should provide an appropriate level of challenge.
Based on their STAR results, each student receives an individualized AR reading goal for each semester. Goals are different for every student and are designed to match their individual reading needs.
AR is not a graded assignment, but students are strongly encouraged to work toward their personal goals.
Your child's AR reading level and corresponding color range will be listed in Google Classroom under βLibrary Class.β
You can use this information to help your child choose books that are within their assigned reading range.
Most AR books in our library are labeled with a colored AR sticker on the spine. Use the chart below to help identify the reading level of a book:

The AR label on the back of a book also includes the book's reading level, point value, and quiz number.

This is especially helpful for books your child has at home, from a Scholastic order, or as an eBook.
Students may take AR quizzes:
At school during designated times
In library class
In their classroom when time allows
At home MondayβFriday during school hours
Students should read the entire book before taking a quiz. They may only take each quiz once.
Students can earn partial credit based on their quiz score, but 100% is needed to earn the book's full point value.
At the end of each semester, students who meet their individual AR goal will be invited to a fun AR celebration sponsored by the PTA!
We will also have a school-wide AR point goal each nine-week period. When our school reaches its goal, all students will be treated to a fun, free incentive!
The best way to support your child is to encourage them to read regularly and talk with them about the books they are reading.

Select Student/Teacher Clever Login.
Enter your child's Clever username and password.
Select Log in.
Once logged in, you can view your child's AR progress. You can also select Email Setup if you'd like to receive emails about your child's quiz and test results.
Please remind your child to:
Read the entire book before taking a quiz.
Take a quiz only on a book they have actually read.
Take each quiz only once.
Choose books within their assigned reading range.
Complete quizzes independently.
