Children need social-emotional skills to thrive both in the classroom and in life. Second Step is a School Wide Social Emotional curriculum which classroom teachers in Central Unified are implementing across the district. Central Unified also includes the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit which is taught in conjunction with the other units such as Skills for learning, Empathy, and Emotion Regulation.
Social-emotional learning (SEL) curricula teach children techniques to:
Gain confidence
Set goals
Make better decisions
Collaborate with others in work and play
Navigate the world more effectively
