Welcome to the Central Unified School District (CUSD) Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program. The handbook on the left has been prepared to be a resource for information, both general to GATE and also CUSD-specific, to answer your questions, and to help point you in the right direction in terms of people, processes, and policies. Topics include:
Defining giftedness and common gifted characteristics
Differences between a bright student and a gifted learner
GATE identification, including categories and measures, timelines, universal screening, referrals, and the appeal process
GATE program components for elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools
Instructional Resources
Resources for the four domains of GATE differentiation ⎻ Depth, Complexity, Acceleration, and Novelty ⎻ as well as social and emotional support and inquiry can be found at the linked website above.
