Advisor Biography

Central Regional’s Choirs, under the direction of Beth Moore, consist of five auditioned and unauditioned choirs (middle school, high school chorale, women’s, men’s, and chamber choir) made up of students in grades 7-12. The choirs, from Berkeley Township, have consistently garnered high ratings in competitions across the country. The middle school choirs sing at The Berkeley Tree Lighting, in our winter and spring concerts, and compete and perform at Hershey Park every spring. They meet every morning and are busy learning the skills that will be necessary to perform at the high school level. The high school choirs have a busy schedule including annual concerts and numerous community events. The choirs have also performed at The White House, Walt Disney World, St John the Divine, The Barnegat Bay Estuary Festival, The NJ American Choral Directors Association High School Choral Festival, The National Tree in Washington DC, St Mary the Virgin in Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, Montclair State University Choral Festival, Harvard University, The Ryman in Nashville, Vanderbilt University, Trinity Wall Street Church, Ocean County PTA meetings, and The Sounds of Summer Concert Series in Berkeley Township. Four years ago they sang, by invitation, John Rutter’s Mass of the Children in Carnegie Hall with John Rutter conducting. They have sung for Chanticleer and The Kings Singers in masterclass. Last year, members of the choirs were invited to sing in a production of Amahl and Night Visitors at The Saint Jean Theatre in Manhattan and also invited back to sing at The National Christmas Tree in Washington D.C. Last year, again by invitation, they sang Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living in Carnegie Hall and works by Ola Gjeilo in David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center. This year they sang sections of Handel’s Messiah in Carnegie Hall, another concert of American traditional music in David Geffen Hall, and Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo in Carnegie Hall. They will also sing in Disney World. They have sung for the Philadelphia Flyers, Trenton Titans, Blue Claws and for countless Central football games, basketball games, baseball games, and wrestling matches. Members of the chamber choir have been accepted into All Shore, All South Jersey and All State Choirs. The chamber choir regularly sings at The NJ Music Educators Association Winter Conference. They have won the High School Choir Christmas Carol Contest on WOBM for twice. They love to work with contemporary composers, have garnered two commissions and they are currently working with two composers closely while learning their compositions. They premiered a new work by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo last May and have a few coming this year. They sing a varied repertoire from renaissance to contemporary. Members of the choir are also successful athletes and scholars. Seven years ago, the chamber choir sang in a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar with The New Jersey Theatre Group that was a benefit for Sylvia’s Children: a non-profit that builds schools in Africa. Beginning in ’03 they have been in constant demand to sing locally at school and community functions. With a philosophy of service through music- they have been bringing music far and near to change and enrich lives.
